We are proud to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the new Louisiana State University of Alexandria (LSUA) Health Education Campus in downtown Alexandria. This transformative, $43 million project represents a massive leap forward for higher education and healthcare access across Central Louisiana, specifically designed to address the critical shortage of nurses and allied health professionals in the region.
“This project represents exactly what a public university should do,” said LSUA Chancellor Paul Coreil. “Our community identified a critical need, and together we built a solution. The LSUA Health Education Campus will help educate more healthcare professionals, strengthen our regional workforce, and improve healthcare access for generations to come.”
Once completed, the four-story, 78,266-square-foot facility will serve as the home for LSUA’s School of Nursing and programs in Healthcare Administration, Health Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, and Radiologic Technology. It will also host vital partnered programs, including Dental Hygiene with the LSU School of Dentistry, and Pre-Respiratory Care and Pre-Surgical Technology with LSU Eunice.
The architecture focuses heavily on student-centric, hands-on environments. The facility’s layout is engineered to foster collaboration and immersive training, featuring:
-
Advanced simulation laboratories: Cutting-edge spaces mimicking real-world clinical environments.
-
Active-learning classrooms: Flexible learning spaces designed for interactive, tech-integrated instruction.
-
Collaborative study areas: Dedicated spaces that encourage peer-to-peer mentorship and teamwork.
-
240-seat auditorium: A modern hub for university lectures, community healthcare summits, and regional events.
By doubling LSUA’s capacity to graduate healthcare professionals annually, the new campus is projected to support roughly 700 additional healthcare positions and generate an estimated $176.5 million in annual economic activity for the region.
For Tipton Associates, this groundbreaking is a double milestone. The Health Education Campus stands as the latest project in our 26-year history of collaboration with Ashe Broussard Weinzettle Architects.
Over the past quarter-century, our firms have worked in close alignment across 25+ projects to design spaces that empower communities, elevate learning, and stand the test of time. Partnering once again to bring this bold vision to life alongside LSUA, local healthcare providers, and community leaders has been a deeply rewarding experience.
Construction is officially underway. We look forward to seeing this dynamic facility take shape and serving the students who will care for Central Louisiana for decades to come.
