Creative Bloc

Historic buildings’ rehabilitation incorporates modern, creative working environment

Creative Bloc is a historic renovation of three buildings in downtown Baton Rouge. Originally built in the 1930s and ‘40s, these heavy masonry buildings sat abandoned for several years before purchase. The design team worked closely with Louisiana’s State Historic Preservation Office and went to great lengths to make the most of the available natural light without modifying the historic exterior walls. The interior, however, presents bold new volumes, carving new spaces for work and social engagement while still highlighting the original structure and historic characteristics.

The new owner had a radical vision to build a new type of office environment in Baton Rouge. With a full-service production studio, reservable meeting spaces of all sizes, rentable offices and full business suites, the project boasts a host of leasable spaces for designers and compatible media firms, small and large. The result is a state-of-the-art urban business park with day-lit collaborative break-out spaces around every corner.

Our mission when we started out was to create a space which fosters creativity in a collaborative environment, shaped by the tenant community. The variety of spaces achieves this by balancing color and light with modern architectural forms, inviting furnishings, and the building’s own historic details from the 1930’s.
