This spring, we embarked on a master planning effort with the wonderful community at First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge. As we explore the space and identify needs and possibilities, we’ve made some unexpected connections in our own office.

Associate architect Whitley Procell noticed a familiar stamp on the original plans for the church’s Dunham Chapel: her grandfather’s. Richard Fergus, a noted structural and civil engineer in Louisiana, worked alongside architect A. Hays Town on the design of the intimate yet striking chapel. To celebrate the sacred space, Whitley’s grandmother, Sarah Fergus, painted a watercolor for her husband.
We love this new layer of meaning to an already significant project. Let’s see where the exploration takes us next!
