Every year, we’re proud to participate in Mid City’s vibrant art hop, White Light Night. Baton Rouge comes out in full force on Friday night to celebrate art, food, music, and local business along Government Street. This year, in addition to live music from mesmerizing Americana vocalist Jacye Guerin and delicious refreshments, we’re thrilled to host a silent auction with our ongoing partner, Iris Domestic Violence Center. Iris D.V. is a local non-profit organization that provides housing as well as legal and career resources to individuals and families seeking to escape abusive relationships. They have been serving the city of Baton Rouge for over thirty years, and now serve seven Louisiana parishes.
Our silent auction will feature twenty works from over a dozen local artists with media ranging from paintings and sculpture to jewelry and ceramics. We asked the artists to reflect specifically on the logo of Iris D.V, a purple iris. The flower is a symbol of hope and valor that has been utilized for many centuries. You may recognize it most in the form of the fleur-de-lis. It’s a fitting way to honor the victims of domestic violence in our community.
Almost 1 in 5 homicides and 70% of female homicides on average in Baton Rouge are the result of domestic violence. This unfortunate reality means that the need to get victims away from their abusers and into safe, temporary housing is greater than available facilities have the capacity to deal with. Tipton has committed to work with Iris D.V. to help realize greater efficiencies in their existing facility as well as plan for improvements to a newly donated facility that they are currently moving into.
Stop by from 6 pm–10 pm to meet our team, peruse the art, and learn much more about Iris D.V. We’ve made your participation in the silent auction convenient and fun too; once you see a piece you like, simply place a bid on your smartphone. Then keep bidding all night long as you hop around Mid City! 100% of the proceeds will go to support Iris D.V.
Tipton Associates is located at 449 Westmoreland Drive, just off the intersection of Government Street and Acadian Thruway. Please visit stopdv.org to donate to Iris D.V. and learn about other ways that you can join us in helping to prevent domestic violence in our region.
