City of New Roads Mayor Robert Myer and City Council Members held the dedication ceremony for Community Park’s NRG Field on Friday October 5, 2012 prior to the 7:30 pm kickoff of the first football game in the new venue. The dedication was well attended and celebrated with music, refreshments, and fireworks.
Tipton Associates worked with the City of New Roads to design Community Park through a series of public community meetings earlier this year which established the foundation for community support and consensus approach for the park. With the historic mill now open to events and parking to accommodate 225, the team engaged Landscape Architect, Joey Furr of Joseph Furr Design Studio, for his expertise in sports turf design and park construction throughout the state.
Finishing touches for this phase of park development continues with the completion of restrooms to service both themill and the stadium, landscaping, and dedication pavers. The next phase for Community Park will be repurposing the old football field, and includes construction on the skate pad, splash pad, and walking trails.
